The Big 12 Board of Directors approved a 10 game schedule that consists of 9 conference games plus 1 nonconference game. This comes after other P5 conferences made similar decisions on their schedules.
Tech was scheduled to play UTEP, Alabama St, and Arizona in nonconference play in 2020. The Alabama St and Arizona games have been canceled for some time now, but UTEP still remains on the schedule.
The current likelihood of the UTEP game happening seems doubtful according to multiple reports. If that is the case, Tech will need to find another nonconference game. From our report last week, Tech was in talks with two other schools, one in Texas and one out of state to add to their schedule before this ruling. Expect Tech to act quickly in finding another game for the schedule if the UTEP game is canceled.
UPDATED: August 6th, here is the 2020 Texas Tech schedule.
Sept 12th: Houston Baptist
Sept 26th: @ Iowa State
Oct 3rd: vs West Virginia
Oct 15th: vs Baylor
Oct 24th: vs Texas
Oct 31st: @ Oklahoma St
Nov 7th: @ Kansas St
Nov 14th: vs Kansas
Nov 21st: @ TCU
Nov 28th: vs OU
The 2 home games already cancelled are Alabama St. & Arizona, not Houston. Since UTEP is a road game I’m sure Tech is trying to get another home game to replace that one.
You’re 100% right. I was thinking Houston as a potential replacement game. Thank you for catching that. I corrected it.
Regardless of the final decision and game, bring it on! I am so ready for anything and any game!
