The Red Raiders Welcome Sam Houston

After a series loss to K-State in Manhattan, the Red Raiders are back in Lubbock to take on the Same Houston Bearkats. The Bearkats come to Lubbock with a 28-18 season record and an 18-6 conference record, leading the WAC with wins over K-State, Iowa, and Texas A&M.

Pitching

Friday’s matchup will feature LHP Mason Molina (3.70 ERA) for the Red Raiders and RHP Coltin Atkinson (3.16 ERA). Atkinson starts the series with 57.0 innings over 11 appearances for Sam Houston allowing 50 hits, 28 runs, 7 home runs, and 21 walks while recording 50 strikeouts. Saturday’s matchup will be between RHP Trendan Parish (4.76 ERA) for Tech and LHP Steven Beard (5.34 ERA) for the Bearkats. Beard starts the series with 59.0 innings over 11 appearances for the Bearkats allowing 68 hits, 39 runs, 7 home runs, and 14 walks while recording 42 strikeouts. The Red Raiders have not announced a Sunday pitcher but they will face LHP Gavi Coldiron (6.25 ERA). Coldiron comes to Lubbock with 44.2 innings over 13 appearances allowing 55 hits, 36 runs, 3 home runs, and 20 walks while recording 53 strikeouts.

Batting

Of the 9 batters that have appeared in the majority of Sam Houston’s games, four are batting over .300, two of which are batting over .400. Tyler Davis (.449 AVG) leads the Bearkats in hits with 79, doubles with 17, and RBI with 45. Joe Redfield (.423 AVG) leads Sam Houston in runs with 45 and home runs with 10. Clayton Chadwick (.270 AVG) leads the Bearkats in walks with 23.

This Sam Houston team is nothing to turn noses up at, they will not be an easy team to beat, but the boys are back in Lubbock which has proven to be the place they can secure the most wins. The bats, which seem to have gone cold over last weekend’s series, will need to get hot again to secure this home-stand win.
