Later this evening Coach Beard and the Red Raiders will take on the #4 ranked Longhorns in a Big 12 Battle. Texas Tech desperately needs a ranked win, while Texas is trying their best to keep pace with #2 Baylor. If Texas Tech pulls off the upset they will move into a tie with Kansas for 3rd in the Big 12, but if Texas wins they move to first place in the Big 12.
Texas comes into today’s match up with a 10-1 record with wins against good competition such as WVU and North Carolina, their lone loss comes to a Villanova team that is now ranked #3 in the nation. Texas’s tough schedule is like almost any other in the Big 12 as Texas Tech will play the #4 team tonight and the #2 Baylor Bears on Saturday. Texas Tech comes into the game with a 10-3 record, their best win coming against OU but 2 of the three losses came at the hands of ranked opponents.
If you took the records and opponents of these two teams, Texas has a clear advantage but considering the Red Raiders are now healthy and they played their best basketball of the season against Iowa State on Saturday. The odd makers have essentially made tonight’s game a “pick’em” but still slightly favoring Texas. If the Red Raiders are going to win this game they cannot waste offensive possessions, meaning they can not take bad shots early in the shot clock. If the Longhorns are going to win the game they must shoot better from deep than they did against WVU because Texas Tech doesn’t give a lot of points up in the paint.
