There are 90 days until the Red Raiders take the field against the Houston Cougars. Every day, we will be highlighting a different Red Raider based on their jersey number. Today, we will be taking a look at defensive lineman Devin Drew.
Drew is going into his senior season (second season with Texas Tech). Last season he played in all 10 games and recorded 21 total tackles. The senior came to Texas Tech in 2020 following two seasons at Iowa Western CC. At Iowa Western, he developed himself as one of the country’s best Junior College defensive linemen. Drew was able to generate offers from several schools including Maryland, Nebraska, North Texas, SMU, and UNLV.
He sat behind Tony Bradford as the backup defensive tackle last season but has shown flashes as a very solid edge rusher in his time at Iowa Western. Drew’s versatility will be huge going forward for the Red Raiders as Keith Patterson looks to fill holes on this defensive line. Sitting at 6’2″ 280, Drew has the size and power to battle in the trenches within the interior of opponents’ offensive lines, but also the finesse and quickness to attack the edge in pass-rushing situations.
Drew has two years left of eligibility and this season will be a huge year for him as well as this entire Red Raider defense. Be on the lookout for a breakout season by Devin Drew!
