Former Texas Tech Red Raider Patrick Mahomes was named the “Top Player of 2021” by NFL Network last night. This comes as no shock to anyone who has watched Mahomes play over the past few seasons.
Mahomes had been named the No. 4 player in the NFL the past two seasons, being the second-ranked quarterback in both of those seasons. He now sits alone at the top of the pack, earning his first top ranking as an NFL Quarterback.
Mahomes played for now-Cardinals Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury at Texas Tech from 2014-2016. While at Texas Tech, Mahomes amassed over 11,000 yards passing and 93 Touchdowns. Since being selected No. 10 overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018, Mahomes has gone on to win an MVP Award and a Super Bowl.
This season, Mahomes will look to avenge his team’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in last season’s Super Bowl.
