McGuire picked up his second commitment Monday night only one hour after Jalon Peoples committed, but this time from his teammate, Three-Star 6’4 Defensive End Harvey Dyson III.
Dyson is the 189th ranked defensive lineman and the 218th ranked player in the state of Texas. He is the second three-star commit McGuire earned. Dyson is also from Cedar Hill.
He is a big, powerful athlete who can move for his size.
Dyson wreaks havoc upfront. Watching his film, he has great hands and strength to get off blocks and make tackles in the backfield or get to the quarterback.
This young man looks the part. He is a big, physical guy who has all the physical tools to become a star player for the Red Raiders.
Dyson currently has 37 tackles on the season, including 7.0 tackles for loss and one interception. So, this tells you what he can do in the backfield and how much chaos he can bring.
When you watch him, with his size and strength, you can see Chase Young in him and how they use those long arms to get off blocks.
The ceiling is very high for this kid, as he has the potential to be an elite defender. Tech has not had an edge guy that can make plays in a long time, but this kid could easily become that guy.
Dyson recently held offers from Arizona, Kansas State, and SMU.
Coach McGuire found a diamond in the rough, and it will be fun to watch him in Lubbock over the next 3-4 years at Texas Tech!
