Monday night, newly hired Texas Tech Head Coach Joey McGuire picked up his first commitment from Three-Star 6’0 Cornerback and Cedar Hill product Jalon Peoples to start his coaching tenure off with a bang!
Coach McGuire hadn’t had the job for more than 12 hours, and he picked up a commitment from one of the best corners in the state of Texas.
Peoples is currently ranked the 48th Corner in the country and the 65th best player in Texas. But coaches will tell you that this guy is one of the best in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The first thing that jumps out is his playmaking ability. This kid is a ballhawk and always seems to find it!
The Red Raiders have not had a shut-down corner in a while, but once this guy gets to Lubbock, look for him to make an immediate impact.
Peoples was recently committed to Kansas before he decided to re-open his commitment, and McGuire saw the opportunity and snatched him up. Peoples had 33 offers from schools like Baylor, Washington, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, and Wisconsin.
In five games this season for Cedar Hill, Peoples has 12 total tackles and two interceptions. He has four career interceptions in his time with the Longhorns so far.
Peoples has great awareness and sound technique that he plays with. He is quick to break on the ball and has good speed to keep up with those fast wide receivers.
But, that is not all he can do. If needed, he can step in and get off blocks and make tackles on the edge! He is not afraid to deliver a hit either. If given the chance, he will make sure you know he’s there waiting for a run to come his way.
If you’re Coach McGuire, you could not have asked for a better way to kick off his new job than getting a commitment from a guy in which he used to coach at from 2003-2016.
Texas Tech fans are going to love this guy. He’s a ballhawk, hard-hitting corner, who has a little swag to him and will make it known he will lock you down! Fans should be excited to see how he progresses and transforms over the next few years in Lubbock!
