The Red Raiders are coming off a dominating 76-50 win against Mississippi St. in the BIG12/SEC showdown. Adonis Arms came off firing for the Red Raiders with 14 first-half points ending the game with only 16. The Red Raider’s next game is against the Texas Longhorns tonight.
The Longhorns are 16-5 on the season and 5-3 in the BIG 12 conference with wins coming against No. 18 Tennessee and a blowout win versus West Virginia. The Longhorn’s schedule has not been easy with their non-conference losses coming to then top-ranked Gonzaga and No. 23 Seton Hall.
Texas is led by senior forward Timmy Allen who averages 11.8 points, a team-high 6.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and also a team-high 1.3 steals per game. As a forward, he is a really good slasher towards the rim and can shoot the three-ball a little bit. Allen shoots the ball at 53.1 percent from the field, 72.2 percent from the free-throw line, and 28.6 percent from three. Helping out the forward for the Longhorns is senior guard Marcus Carr and senior guard Andrew Jones. Carr averages 10.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, a team-high 3.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Carr can stretch the floor a little better with shooting at 38.7 percent from the field, 79.4 percent from the free-throw line, and 33.7 percent from three. Jones averages 10.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He shoots the ball at 42.3 percent from the field, 84.6 from the free-throw line, and 32.6 percent from three.
The Longhorns rank first in the BIG 12 in the fewest turnovers per game, so having solid defense for 40 minutes will be crucial. Texas is also ranked fourth in the BIG 12 in steals per game so ball security will be another factor in the game.
After this week, the Red Raiders are on the road to Morgantown to face West Virginia on Saturday (Feb. 5). Come out and wear black to the United Supermarkets arena on Tuesday and cheer on our Red Raiders against the Longhorns. Wreck Em!
