After going 3-2 on the road last week the Red Raiders are back home in Lubbock to take on the Grand Canyon Antelopes. Grand Canyon comes to Lubbock with a 20-15 season record and an 11-7 conference record with wins over a ranked Tennesse team early in the season and a loss to a ranked Arizona State team last week.
Pitching
Tuesday’s matchup will feature LHP Taber Fast (6.04 ERA) for the Red Raiders and RHP Carter Young (7.59 ERA) for the Antelopes. Young comes to Lubbock with 21.1 innings over 6 appearances for Grand Canyon, allowing 27 hits, 19 runs, 6 home runs, and 5 walks while recording 27 strikeouts. Both starting pitchers for Wednesday’s matchup have yet to be announced.
Batting
Grand Canyon has ten batters that have played in the majority of the Antelopes games this season, of those ten five are batting over .300. Jacob Wilson leads the Antelopes in batting average at .468 after playing in 29 and starting in 28 of Grand Canyons 35 total games. Homer Bush Jr. (.410 AVG) leads Grand Canyon in hits (59), doubles (12), and runs (48). Zach Yorke (.352) leads the Antelopes in home runs with 6, RBI with 42, and Zack Gregory (.282 AVG) leads Grand Canyon with 38.
Grand Canyon is quite the offensive matchup for Tech, averaging almost 8 runs a game with a .308 team batting average whereas the Red Raiders are averaging 9 runs a game with a .320 team batting average. As far as midweek matchups go, this could be one of the more interesting Tech has hosted this season. The bats will need to be hot to match the Antelopes’ offensive potential.
