NBA free agency is in full swing, as players are being signed and traded all over the place. The lastest player to be traded is former Texas Tech star, Zhaire Smith.
Smith has only played 13 games since being drafted in 2018, mainly due to injury and an allergic reaction that almost took his life. The Garland, Texas native is being traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Detroit Pistons for Center Tony Bradley.
The Pistons have had an odd off-season so far, but it is nice to see them add another young player with good upside. If Smith can stay healthy, he will see consistent minutes in Detroit with Troy Weaver, the new General Manager cleaning house. Weaver has traded every player from last year’s team except Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose, Sekou Soumbouya, and Svi Mykhailiuk. In Smith’s short career has averaged 3.7 PPG, 1.2 RPG, and 0.9 APG.
