The Red Raiders won their first-ever road game against an AP Top 5 ranked team in program history, and they did so in dramatic fashion. McClung would post 22 points against the Longhorns, but it was his last 2 that will echo loudest so far in the 2020-2021 season.
Add in 5 rebounds, 2 assist,s and a steal, that is the type of performance which can earn top performer of the week. McClung’s performance just 3 days later proved that his ascension to one of the best players in the conference is no fluke. Against #2 Baylor, a team that had won every game by double-digits this season, Mac posted a stat line of 24 points, 3 blocks, and one steal. The Red Raiders ultimately fell short against the Bears, but McClung’s efforts were not overlooked.
The junior guard set new season-high points in both games. The Gate City, Virginia native averaged 23.0 points with six 3-pointers. McClung becomes the first player to earn Big 12 POW honors since last year when Kyler Edwards earned it almost one year to the day.
