There are 85 days until the Red Raiders take the field against the Houston Cougars. Every day, we will be highlighting a different Red Raider based on their jersey number. Today, we will be taking a look at wide receiver Trey Cleveland!
Trey Cleveland is going into his sophomore season with the Red Raiders. His freshman season, he redshirted, but still saw action on special teams in four of the late games against Kansas, West Virginia, Kansas State, and Texas.
During the 2020 season, Cleveland was a redshirt freshman and had earned a spot in the main receiver rotation. He appeared in all 10 games with the Red Raiders, one being a start as an outside receiver. Cleveland played as a backup in the ‘Z’ receiver position.
Cleveland caught eight passes for the year totaling 81 yards and a touchdown! His first career catch was against season opener, Houston Baptist, having two receptions and 32 yards. His first career start was against Iowa State, just a few weeks later. Later on, in the season, he caught two passes in back-to-back games. Against West Virginia, Cleveland had a total of 17 yards and an 11-yard sike from Henery Colombi, scoring a touchdown in the win against the Mountaineers, his first career touchdown.
I can see Trey Cleveland being utilized greatly this season. He has very good experience from last season, and his first season saw action on special teams, so he is already a versatile player. I think we will see a whole lot more Cleveland this season, and I am excited to see him and the Red Raiders grow together as a team.
