No. 8 Texas Tech Falls to No. 9 Stanford 15-3 in Super Regional Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas– No. 8 Texas Tech (39-19, 14-10 Big 12) drops the series opener 15-3 to the No. 9 Stanford Cardinal (37-15, 17-10 Pac 12) behind a career performance by Stanford pitcher, Brenden Beck.

Player of the Game

From the first pitch, Beck asserted his dominance. In 7.1 innings, he recorded 13 strikeouts (career-high), one walk, two earned runs, and the win through 114 pitches. His stamina in this game has allowed for the entire Stanford bullpen to be of use for the rest of this series.

Game Timeline

Starting off this game, Tim Tawa hit a one-out home run. The Cardinal then had three consecutive two-out singles that brought in three more runs in the top of the first, which gave them an early 4-0 lead.

Texas Tech had a few scoring opportunities with a Cole Stilwell home run and rbi single in the fourth and sixth innings respectively to make it 6-2, but the Cardinal offense was just too much for the Red Raiders to keep up with.

In the final three innings, Stanford outscored Texas Tech nine to one. This scoring run effectively took any chance of a Red Raider comeback out of the question, and following this sequence, Tadlock, opted to make some major roster substitutions in the field by putting four new guys in the lineup (Cody Masters, Max Marusak, Dillon Carter, and Brayden Runion). Texas Tech ended up losing 15-3.

Texas Tech Pitching

From the mound, Texas Tech struggled to put it lightly. Starting pitcher, Chase Hampton only got through 3.2 innings, allowing five hits and four runs.

Six Red Raiders came in from the pen. Collectively, they allowed nine hits and 11 runs through 5.2 innings. What seemed to be a strong point last weekend turned into our greatest weakness in this matchup.
