The Texas Tech Red Raiders officially have released the Big 12 part of their schedule. The non-conference games are yet to be determined, but here is how the Big 12 slate looks for the Red Raiders in 2020-2021.
A few things stand out at first glance, the Big 12 opener for the Red Raiders is against the Kansas Jayhawks at the USA. Kansas is thought to be a preseason Top 5 while Tech will most likely be between 12-18. By the time this game takes place, this could easily be a Top 10 matchup.
The next part of the schedule that stands out is the five games after Kansas. Those are all winnable games and if Tech can split between KU at home and UT on the road, a 5-1 start to conference play would go a long way towards winning a Big 12 title.
The last aspect of the schedule that stands out is that of the stretch of Feb 9th to Feb 20th. Tech will matchup against the Mountaineers (another team thought to be a preseason Top 15 team), Baylor (a preseason Top 5 team), then head home to face a Horned Frog team projected towards the bottom of the conference then head up to Kansas to finish the tough stretch against the Jayhawks, which could be a knockout game for the Big 12 title. If Tech can go 2-2 and maybe even 3-1, they should be in a good spot in terms of winning a regular-season title.
At first glance, the schedule sets up for the Red Raiders to come out of the gate hot and start Big 12 play with a bang. The latter half of the schedule will be tough to navigate, but if Coach Beard & Crew have shown us anything in their tenure at Texas Tech, this team will always have a chance no matter the opponent and location.
