The Lady Raiders start their season and Krista Gerlich era in the 806 off on the right foot. Texas Tech beat UTRGV in their season and home opener by a score of 89-56.
The Lady Raiders quickly got out to a double-digit lead in the 1st quarter and didn’t look back. Gerlich and the Lady Raiders welcomed in various newcomers to the squad, but none stood out more than OK State transfer Vivian Gray. Gray, who averaged 19.3 ppg last season which ranked 2nd in the conference and 19th nationally, started her Lady Raider career off with 15 points in the 1st half and led all scorers with 24 points for the game.
Chrislyn Carr started her Junior campaign much like she ended her Sophomore campaign, by filling up the box score. She struggled a bit in the 1st half scoring, only having three points, but she did have four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. She finished the game with 15 pts, 7 rebs, and 4 asts.
Gordon, Tucker, and Wade-Warren also were in double figures for the Lady Raiders in the opener. The former UCONN Husky Lexi Gordon, started off 0-5 from the field, but quickly heated up in the 2nd quarter and really helped jump-start a Lady Raiders run before halftime and ended the game with 18 points.
The Lady Raiders will head into their second game of the season at 1-0 as they welcome in the Huskies of Houston Baptist to the 806 on Saturday, Nov 28th, before heading to Nashville, TN to play Vanderbilt in the Big 12/SEC Challenge on December 2nd.
