Going into this season, I wasn’t sure how Nate Rombach fit into this lineup. He played admirably at multiple positions this weekend, starting at both catcher and first base. He is arguably the best power hitter in this lineup and showed it this weekend against a struggling Houston Baptist team.
Rombach started Friday’s game hitting 7th in the lineup and playing first base. In his first at-bat, he cranked a home run to left-center field scoring two runs. These were the first of many runs on the weekend for the Red Raiders. He followed his home run with an RBI double later in the game.
He followed that performance up with two RBI on Saturday. Sunday, Rombach finished his weekend with two more RBI and another home run. His totals for the weekend included the home run on Friday and a double on each Saturday and Sunday.
The freshman will continue to use his powerful hitting as the season goes on. I would not be surprised at the end of the season if Rombach leads not only the Red Raiders but the Big 12 in home runs.
