Tech Baseball Look to Keep Momentum Against Struggling Texas Southern

The No. 10 Texas Red Red Raiders (3-3) will be taking on the struggling Texas Southern Tigers (0-7) in a two-game midweek series today in Lubbock. Texas Tech is coming off of a three-game sweep of Houston Baptist over the weekend. The Tigers are coming off of being swept by Incarnate Word.

This Texas Southern team hasn’t been able to put it together at all. Most of their games have been blowouts and none in their favor. They have faced some decent programs in TCU once (20-0 Loss) and Houston in a three-game series (0-3).

Hitting:

Oscar Ponce has not gotten off to a good start this season, but he was their best returning player from last year’s team. He has only hit .160 so far this season but has hit the team’s only home run. He has been hitting third in the lineup and playing first base.

Tyson Thompson leads the team off in the lineup and plays in the outfield. Thompson has been effective this season hitting .357 with five hits. Another player to watch out for is Nic Garza. He starts at third base and will hit in the middle of the lineup. Hitting .400, Garza leads the team with eight hits and has also driven in a run.

Pitching:

Pitching-wise, I do not know who will take the bump for the Tigers. They threw five different pitchers in their midweek game last week against TCU. Names such as Jacob Morin, Jaiden Beck, and Bryson Armstrong are all names that could be taking the mound this week for the Tigers.

The Red Raiders should honestly sweep the Tigers and sweep them in dominating fashion. This team hasn’t won any games and very few of their games have been close. Coach Tadlock and his team should be ready to put a beating on the Tigers the next two days!
