The Red Raiders are coming off of five dominating wins over Houston Baptist and Texas Southern. This weekend, they go to another Round-Robin-Style tournament, this one in Houston. The Red Raiders will be facing Texas State on Friday, Sam Houston State on Saturday, and Texas A&M Corpus-Christi on Sunday.

Texas State Preview:

Texas State is currently 4-6 and is coming off a 10-3 loss to Texas. They will most likely send Senior Right Hander Zachary Leigh to the mound to start the game against the Red Raiders. Leigh is currently 0-1 on the season with a 4.88 ERA in two starts for the Bobcats. Leigh is in his fifth season with the team and brings a ton of experience with him.

Justin Thompson and Will Hollis are their two best hitters. Thompson is hitting .371 on the season and leads the team in hits (13) and RBI (13). He has hit in multiple spots in the lineup, but I see him hitting second against the Red Raiders. Hollis is another fifth-year senior for Texas State. He is hitting .286 with one home run and two RBI. Hollis will hit towards the top of the lineup, even leading off in some games.

Sam Houston State Preview:

Sam Houston State is currently 1-4 on the season, including a 5-4 loss to the aforementioned Texas State. They are coming off of a 4-0 loss to Baylor and will be looking to right the ship this weekend. They will most likely send Matt Dillard to the mound on Saturday. He is their best overall pitcher, even though he didn’t have a great game against UTSA last weekend. Dilliard is one of the best MLB Prospects in the Southland Conference this season.

First Baseman Jack Rodgers is the team’s best hitter. Rodgers leads the team with a .444 batting average on the season with one home run and four RBI. Gavin Johnson is another name to watch out for. Johnson is second on the team in hits (5) and tied for second on the team in RBI (2).

Texas A&M Corpus Christi Preview:

Texas A&M Corpus Christi is currently 4-4 on the season and is coming off of a loss to Texas. Hayden Thomas will most likely take the mound for the Islanders on Sunday. He is 1-0 on the season and has a 1.58 ERA. Thomas is arguably their first or second-best pitcher on their roster. He recently went eight innings against Houston and only allowed two runs. Cassius Shy is going to relieve Thomas at some point in the game. Shy had an opportunity to win the game against Houston last Sunday and got the save against Central Michigan two weeks ago.

Josh Caraway is the team’s best power hitter. He has three home runs so far this season and will look to launch the ball out of the park. Half of his hits this season have been homers. Mike Williams is another good hitter. He is second on the team with seven hits and is tied for the team lead with five RBI.

Texas Tech should have little to no issues with any of these teams this weekend. Look for the Red Raiders to give more opportunities to younger guys this weekend.

Prediction:

Game 1:

Texas Tech: 11

Texas State: 2

Game 2:

Texas Tech: 14

Sam Houston State: 1

Game 3:

Texas Tech: 8

Texas A&M Corpus Christi: 2
