Jace Jung powers his way to our Hitter of the Week

There was no shortage of offense over the Red Raiders’ five-win week. Scoring eight runs or more in four of those games allowed the Red Raiders to defeat some of their opponents soundly, which is why this week’s award was especially hard to give. We ultimately decided to give it to a player that has flashed both power and hitting ability: Jace Jung.

Texas Southern Series:

He started last week’s series with Texas Southern by driving in four runs in three innings. He singled home a run in the second inning, sacrifice flew in a run in the fourth inning and belted a home run in the sixth inning to bring his total to four RBI.

That’s as good as it gets for most people, but not for Jung. He followed up his huge day on Tuesday with an even bigger day on Wednesday! Jung hit not one but two home runs to drive in five runs on Wednesday. He posted 9 RBI in a two-game series!

Shriners’ College Baseball Classic:

Jung didn’t match his mid-week production over the weekend but still turned in a solid outing. He was relatively quiet on Friday against Texas State. He only got one hit across, and it didn’t drive in any runs. Saturday, he had another sacrifice flyout and a single to drive in 2 runs on the day.

Sunday, he provided one hit that drove in three of the team’s four runs on the day! Jung delivered a bases-clearing three-run double in the bottom of the 7th inning to lead the Red Raiders to victory.

In total, Jung hit three home runs, two doubles, two sacrifice flies, and drove in an astounding 14 runs over the past week! He earned our hitter of the week by dominating Texas Southern and being the best situational hitter in Houston over the weekend.
