There’s 99 days until the Red Raiders take the field against the Houston Cougars. Every day, we will be highlighting a different Red Raider based on their jersey numbers. Today, we will be taking a look at defensive lineman Gilbert Ibeneme.
Ibeneme is coming into this season as a sophomore. He has dealt with injuries during his time at Texas Tech and has not seen the field so far. That should change this season. Ibeneme was a highly recruited defensive end out of Pearland High School in Pearland, Texas.
He was rated as a consensus three-star prospect and was highly sought after by many Power 5 programs including Arkansas, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M, and Indiana. Ibeneme is going into this season as a depth piece for the defensive line. he’ll most likely play defensive end for the Red Raiders but has shown he can move inside if necessary.
Ibeneme was out this spring as he recovered from offseason shoulder surgery. If he can overcome his injuries, he should be a very productive member of this defense in no time.
