There are 91 days until the Red Raiders take the field against the Houston Cougars. Every day, we will be highlighting a different Red Raider based on their jersey number. Today, we will be taking a look at defensive lineman Nelson Mbanasor.
Mbanasor is a senior on this Texas Tech squad and can make a huge impact on this team this season. Last season, he was limited to one game due to a season-ending injury. He made four tackles, one for loss in that game. He is from Pflugerville, Texas and went to Hendrickson High School where he was a three-star prospect. Mbanasor chose Tech over many Power 5 offers including Baylor, Houston, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas just to name some.
The senior defensive end has molded himself into a solid piece on this defensive line and I expect him to be a rotation piece this season. Mbanasor has appeared in 22 games in his Red Raider career (two full seasons plus one game last season) and has more experience than many in his position group. He has amassed 28 tackles in his career and I expect him to double that number this season.
There aren’t many more people more experienced on this defensive line than Nelson Mbanasor. The Red Raiders should rely on him this season to make a huge impact both on and off the field!
