Recruiting Profile: Cedric Russell

A bucket getter in every way. Transferring from Louisiana, Cedric Russell would bring an experienced scoring threat to take this roster to the next level!

Physicals:

Russell stands at 6’2″ and 190 pounds. He has a big enough frame to get to the rim but usually relies on moving without the ball to get his shots. He can guard the point guard position well with elite quickness.

Offense:

Russell is obviously known for his scoring, as he put up 17 points per game last season. He is a three-level scorer, meaning he can get to the rim, hit mid-range shots, and shoot it from deep! He used screens last season to find room to shoot it from all levels last season but also has the touch near the rim to attack.

I can see him playing the point or the shooting guard this season for the Red Raiders. He’s got point guard skills and is built more like a point but plays like a two-guard offensively. A backcourt featuring him and either Mylik Wilson or Sardaar Calhoun would be one to be reckoned with in the Big 12.

Defense:

Russell isn’t that great defensively but can guard the point or even shooting guard spots. He definitely has the athleticism and quickness to be a plus defender and that’s what he showed last season.

Russell would fit well on this team. He’s not going to blow you away with his size or overall athletic talent. He’s a bucket, plain and simple. He can score from anywhere on the floor and getting him to Lubbock could put this team over the top!
