Former Tech player Janine Beckie scores Canada’s only two goals to lift her team to a 2-1 win over Chile in their second match of the group phase at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Beckie had a chance early on to get Canada their first goal when she was given a chance to step in for the Penalty Kick at the 19-minute mark, but she hit it off the post.

She would get another opportunity at the 39′ mark after Nichelle Prince played a ball in the air to Christine Sinclair, but it fell to Beckie as she hammered it home to give Canada the early 1-0 lead.

It would not take long into the second half as Canada would quickly strike after Beckie kicked it in for her second goal of the night at 47′ to give them a 2-0 lead which they hold to win the match 2-1.

With the win, Canada has four points after a 1-1 draw in their opening match with Japan, and they have positioned themselves to progress to the knockout phase of the tournament.

After reaching the podium in 2012 and 2016, Canada will look to make history by making the podium for the third consecutive time.

Canada will wrap up the group stage play against Great Britain on Tuesday. Beckie will look to be a big part of this team if they hope to win another medal at these Olympic Games.
