Transfer Portal Update: Who Will Tech Land Next?

Key Transfer Portal updates about Fardaws Aimaq, Kendric Davis, Tyreke Key and more!

It’s that time of the year in College Basketball, Transfer Portal Season is in full effect, and the Red Raiders are in the mix for some intriguing prospects. The following is a mix of semi-insider knowledge and some educated guessing. In reality, no one can know where these transfers will land, but that doesn’t make the process any less fun for fans and media types alike. Here are updates on a few Texas Tech Targets:

Fardaws Aimaq: 6’11” Center, Utah Valley

2021-2022 Stats: 18.9 points, 13.6 rebounds per game

Aimaq had a bit of playful back and forth yesterday with some Texas Tech fans. I spoke with him briefly last night. He will test the NBA Draft waters and use the feedback from that to determine whether or not he will come back to college.

Texas Tech is an option as he narrowed his list of potential colleges to include Texas Tech earlier in the week. If he selects Texas Tech, Aimaq would step right into the center spot with his length and scoring ability. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Decision ETA: Late May/ Early June

Tyreke Key: 6’3″ Guard, Indiana State

2021-2022 Stats: Missed Season with Injury, Averaged 17.2 points, 5.3 rebounds per game in 2020-2021

Key was in Lubbock this past weekend for an official visit. As reported by 24/7 High School Sports on Twitter, Key plans to take visits to Tennessee (he’s from Tennessee), Oklahoma, and Ole Miss before picking a school.

I spoke to Key briefly Sunday afternoon, he praised the entire program on his visit and said that Texas Tech is an awesome place! Key would come in and start at the shooting guard spot for the Red Raiders, he has one season of eligibility remaining.

Decision ETA: 1-2 Weeks

Kendric Davis: 5’11’ Guard, SMU

2021-2022 Stats: 19.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists per game

Davis listed Texas Tech as one of his Top-7 Schools yesterday. Not sure if he’s going to take a visit anywhere as he also announced his decision will be made Friday. Davis is regarded as the best guard in the portal and certainly has the most experience against P6 talent.

Not sure what to think of his quick decision, he did tweet at Texas Tech fans over the weekend. He has one season of eligibility remaining.

Decision ETA: Friday, April 22nd

Norchad Omier: 6’7 Forward, Arkansas State

2021-2022 Stats: 17.9 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2 blocks per game

Omier listed Texas Tech in his Top-4 late last week. According to Jeff Goodman, Omier will visit Texas Tech the last week of April. Omier is an athletics freak and has averaged a double-double both years in college. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Decision ETA: Early May

Sean McNeil: 6’3″ Guard, West Virginia

2021-2022 Stats: 12.2 points, 2.5 rebounds per game

I’m only putting McNeil in here since he listed Texas Tech as a finalist over a week ago. Since then he has announced his visit schedule and left Texas Tech off. I believe he won’t be coming since no visit to Texas Tech is in his plans. McNeil has one season of eligibility remaining.

Decision ETA: 2-3 Weeks
