It happened. It finally happened. After weeks of hanging on the edge of our seats, the Big 12 has finally released the conference portion of next season’s football schedules, completing the lineup for each team in 2023.
2023 looks to be a promising year for Tech as they host marquee teams such as Oregon, Houston, reigning conference champion Kansas State, national runner-up TCU, and new member UCF in Lubbock.
A few notable aspects of the 2023 season for Tech include no Oklahoma teams this season, playing BYU in Provo and UCF in Lubbock, back-to-back years of hosting Houston and ending the season with a Black Friday matchup with Texas in Austin. An interesting game that should be circled in red for Tech fans is Houston on September 30th, as former Red Raider Donovan Smith makes his return to Lubbock as a now-Houston Cougar.
As the schedule circulates around the Texas Tech Football community, overall reactions are highly favorable:
Overall, 2023 should shape up to be one of the best seasons in school history as Tech is primed to make a serious run for The Big 12 Championship. With its returning talent and jet-fueled momentum following a very successful 2022 season, Arlington is not too far away from the Red Raiders. Joey McGuire and Co. return to the gridiron on Saturday, April 22nd for the Spring Game and begin the 2023 campaign on the road in Laramie, Wyoming to face off against the Wyoming Cowboys on Saturday, September 2nd.
