Red Raiders Return Home to Face New Mexico

The Red Raiders head back to Lubbock for a quick turnaround midweek game against the New Mexico Lobos. The Lobos come to Lubbock on a two-game win streak and an overall 9-2 record with a win and a loss to the No. 23 ranked Oregon State Beavers.

Pitching

The Lobos are coming to Lubbock for the first mid-week game of their season, so pitching is up in the air. The Lobos have a team ERA of 5.07 as compared to the Red Raiders who have a team ERA of 3.92. Isaac Gallegos, Jaren Jackson, and Tristin Lively can likely be ruled out as they were the starting pitchers in the Lobos’ last series against St. Bonaventure.

Batting

Of the 10 batters for the Lobos that have played in 8 or more of their 11 games, eight of them are coming into Lubbock batting over .300. The top leaders include Dylan Dizenberger who is leading the Lobos batting .500 after starting in all 11 games. Dizenberger has 21 hits and 15 RBI with a home run on the season. Their second-best batter is Braydon Runion, who transferred to New Mexico after starting his collegiate career at Tech. Runion is currently batting .463 after starting in all 11 of the Lobos games, he comes back to Lubbock with 19 hits, 14 RBI, and 3 home runs on the season.

Tech is expected to start the game with Zach Erdman on the mound, the true freshman’s last appearance was against Air Force where he threw for 3.0 innings allowing 2 hits and recording 2 strikeouts. Tech pitching will have to be locked in to secure the win against the Lobos and the bats will need to match the intensity on the offensive front.
