Is Micah Peavy the next great Duncanville Panther at Texas Tech?

When the Red Raiders signed future NBA player Jami’us Ramsey in 2018, eyeballs began watching highlights of the potential superstar. One of Ramsey’s teammates caught my eye and the eye of many other recruiters in the country, Micah Peavy.

While Ramsey used his athleticism to score his baskets, Peavy used angles and cleverness to get space for his shots. He does a great job of using his body as a shield to get space when matched up against more athletic defenders. This skill will be a great asset to him when he faces Big 12 defenders this season.

Ranked the No. 88 player in the country by ESPN and the No. 43 player by 247, the 6’7 forward/guard was a huge get for the Red Raiders, a program that had also added McDonald’s All-American Nimari Burnett. Peavy picked Tech over Texas, TCU, and Florida.

I don’t know his exact role on this year’s team, but I do believe he will be a part of the rotation. He can guard multiple positions and has added 15 pounds of weight according to the TTU Basketball Roster. His quickness and ability to score over all types of defenders make him a must-have in a rotation that needs guys who can defend multiple positions.

I project he’ll play the guard/forward and maybe the power forward spot on this team. The talent at those positions is immense, especially with Peavy joining the group. He’ll have to compete with guys like Terrence Shannon Jr., Kevin McCullar, Tyreek Smith, and Avery Benson for playing time.

His future in this program is crucial to its success. Although Peavy might not project as a one and done player right now, he has the potential and tools to be one. He also does project to be an amazing college player that could lead this program for many years, maybe one day taking the role that Kyler Edwards is projected to have.

Underrated, at best. Peavy may be even better than Ramsey. Along with those players on this roster, he helps make it possibly the most dangerous and deepest in the country. Beard could very well settle by conference play on two equally effective squads, with the final four players providing very strong depth. I look forward to this coming season with more anticipation than I have had for any Texas Tech sport for over 60 years. SUN’S UP, GUNS UP!!
