Texas Tech’s Home Opening weekend went according to plan as TTU won all three games. The pitching staff performed well, giving up six runs over 25 innings of work. Starting pitching posted a stat line of 16.1 innings pitched, four runs allowed, and 16 Strikeouts. The bullpen numbers looked a little better with 8.2 innings of work, allowing two runs, and striking out eight.
One pitcher’s performance over the weekend stands out above the rest, as Patrick Monteverde threw seven innings, gave up zero runs, and only allowed two hits. Patrick also faced 22 batters while striking out 9nine (eight of which were swinging) on less than 80 pitches. The 23-year-old lefty posted a WHIP of 0.28 and a K/9 of 11.57, while also getting his first win of the season. Monteverde’s lights-out performance is why he is the Texas Tech Pitcher of the week.
