My pitcher of the week and Big 12 Newcomer of the week is Patrick Monteverde. He comes off another stellar outing against the best team Texas Tech faced in the Shiners Hospital for Children College Classic, SHSU. He produced another scoreless start throwing seven innings, striking out nine, and only allowing three base runners.
Runner at third with no outs?

Monteverde is an early-season lock to be among college baseball’s top three pitchers. In three appearances this season, the 23-year-old righty has amassed 18 innings, all scoreless. His 0.50 WHIP is as low as it gets for a guy this far into a season, Patrick Monteverde has done all this while still holding a K/9 of 11.5. If I could only use one stat outside of ERA to explain how dominant he has been, I’d point out that he has only allowed a single extra-base hit all year!
