Texas Tech Basketball earns Commitment from “Last Chance U” Star KJ Allen

After what seemed like weeks of bad news, a ray of good news came in last night. KJ Allen, a 6’6″ forward flipped his commitment from USC to Texas Tech. This is a huge win for the program, especially Head Coach Mark Adams who had heard nothing but bad news for the last week and a half.

Allen has averaged 18.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this season for East Los Angeles College. He was featured in the hit Netflix show “Last Chance U”. Allen’s playstyle is aggressive, relentless, and above the rim. He is one of the most athletic players in the country and can dunk over anyone. He is a bit of an old-school player. Allen has a decent mid-range jump shot but never steps outside the three-point line to take shots. Allen wants to cut off-ball screens, and get up in transition for big dunks and alley-oop jams.

He fits on this team. The new, attacking style of offense will be perfect for Allen to fit into. Allen will also have a bigger impact on the defensive end than people think as well. He has averaged 1.8 steals this season and has upped that average to 2.5 during conference play. He will most likely play in the frontcourt alongside Marcus Santos-Silva and Kevin McCullar. I do not know if he will be starting next season, but he will have a huge role in this program going forward!

Welcome to Lubbock, KJ Allen!
