There’s Cameron Cantrell Days Until Football

There are 83 days until the Red Raiders take the field against the Houston Cougars. Every day, we will be highlighting a different Red Raider based on their jersey number. Today, we will be taking a look at Wide Receiver, Cameron Cantrell.

Cameron Cantrell is entering his third season with the team as a Redshirt Sophomore. He comes from Whitehouse, TX, a city that’s now a household name due in large part to Patrick Mahomes. Cantrell’s brother, Dylan, was a star wideout for the Red Raiders alongside Mahomes from 2013-2017. He was drafted in the 6th round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Cantrell redshirted his first year on campus after suffering an injury in the preseason. During the 2020 season, he was a member of the scout team. He was also a member of the active roster on game days despite not seeing any playing time.

Cantrell was a three-star prospect out of high school & totaled 1,486 yards on 113 catches and 13 touchdowns in three seasons. He will be competing for playing time with a strong group of receivers, including two of the top three from 2020 returning in Erik Ezukanma and Myles Price. If Cameron’s toughness and sure-handedness are remotely close to his brother’s, don’t be surprised if he cracks the field this season despite the abundance of talent this year’s WR group has.
