Lexy Hightower Brings Elite Scoring and Experience to Texas Tech

This offseason the Lady Raiders added a sharpshooting All-American Guard from West Texas A&M in Lexy Hightower! She should fit in nicely in Lubbock and add some offensive talent to this team.

Hightower is transferring to Tech from West Texas A&M, where she will be a graduate transfer this year. While in Canyon, Texas, she was a 3-time All-American and earned two Lone Star Conference Player of the Year awards. Over her career, she averaged 14.2 points, 2 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.1 steal a game. She is also shooting over 80% from the free-throw line and 44% for career three-point percentage.

Her best season came this past season for the Lady Buffaloes where she put up numbers of 17.3 pts, 3.6 assists, and 1.6 steals a game. She shot 88% from the free-throw line and 40% from three-point range. She was named to the WBCA Honorable Mention Third-Team All-American and named Lone Star Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.

Hightower has scored 1,642 career points to rank sixth on the program’s all-time scoring list. She ranks toward the top of numerous categories in the Lady Buffs’ record book including second in three-point field goals made with 229, second in three-point field goal percentage (44.1%), 10th in scoring average (14.2).

I think the biggest thing that stands out about her game is that she knows how to run the offense and run the point. She is definitely a scorer and an outright shooter. Hightower knows how to take defenders off the dribble and get to the basket. She also makes her impact on the defensive end and knows how to be smart to get the steal and go coast-to-coast. Once she steps out to the three-point line she will make you pay and knock down shots from deep consistently.

Tech fans should be absolutely ecstatic to have Hightower a part of the Lady Raiders team and to have on the court this season. She will be a great addition to that backcourt of Tech with Gerlich, Gray, and Scott. Head Coach Krista Gerlich certainly hit a home run with this transfer and Hightower will look to make her name known in the Big 12 to lift the Lady Raiders over that hump and compete for a Big 12 Title. She will be a scorer and a facilitator on the court and Tech fans will love that and be glad she is here in Lubbock!
