This week, the Red Raiders defense went on a tear against their BIG 12 Conference openers against Oklahoma and Kansas State. The defense was able to hold both teams scoreless in both of the victories. Freshman defender Macy Blackburn was in all 90 minutes of both games and contributed to the offense in the Sooners game, wins her player of the week.
In the first game against Oklahoma, Blackburn contributed two assists to fellow teammates Kirsten Davis, and Hannah Anderson. Her being a defender giving up zero points and helping score two is outstanding, especially for a Freshman. In the second game against Kansas State, Blackburn and the Red Raider defense swarmed again with another game with the opponent ending with no goals. This is the seventh time the Red Raiders have allowed zero goals on the season. Overall on the season, the defense for Texas Tech has allowed a total of 6 goals on the season with the offense scoring 30 goals in 11 games.
Tech’s defense has been amazing at home, but the Red Raiders travel to Waco and Austin to attempt to continue the hot streak they are on in the BIG 12.
