Coach McGuire and Texas Tech Get Their First Commit For The Class of 2023

The Red Raiders got a commitment from Post High School 4-star Defensive End/Linebacker Isaiah Crawford who is the 3rd highest ranked defensive recruit in program history.

Need to mention first that Crawford was first committed to Baylor. It wasn’t until McGuire was hired as head coach of Texas Tech, that he decided to de-commit and consider his options.

This is the second recruit McGuire has flipped and he got a good one in keeping with his statement of recruiting West Texas players and being from Post, he’s not too far from Lubbock.

You turn on this guy’s highlights and you will see someone who runs to the ball, and you probably will not find a guy that hustles more than him.

Crawford is a big guy! At 6’4 at LB or at that edge rusher, he uses his height to his advantage with his long arms to get off blocks.

He does a nice job of setting the edge and keeping that outside arm free to make tackles. He has really good speed to get in the backfield and rush the quarterback.

Crawford has excellent technique when playing as the edge guy and I expect McGuire to use him both as an edge rusher and a linebacker.

It could be the same situation with how the Dallas Cowboys use Micah Parsons, and with the right coaching, he could become just that!

He is also a pretty shifty, strong running back, and the opposing defense probably doesn’t like seeing a 6’4 guy in the backfield coming downhill!

As I stated earlier Crawford is a 4-star with a rating of 90 and he is currently ranked 165th in the nation, and 12th for the edge position, and the 25th ranked player in the state of Texas.

His defensive stats in 10 games this season are 78 total tackles, 16 TFL, with an average of 7 tackles a game, 5 sacks, 8 hurries, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, and one punt block.

Now if you turn to the offensive side of the ball, he has 89 carries for 572 yards and four touchdowns. He also has five receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown.

This is a huge flip for Coach McGuire and he is shaping a defense that is going to wreak havoc on Big 12 offenses! With a defensive line composed of Massey, Dyson, and now Crawford, quarterbacks better beware!
