Guns Up Nation Interview with ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Texas Tech Commit Jake Strong

Guns Up Nation sat down with Jake Strong to recap his visit to Texas Tech!

Describe your visit to Texas Tech in a couple of sentences.

The visit was super exciting! The coaching staff was “fired up” all weekend and really showcased The Brand well. I can’t stress enough how special this University, town, football program, and all the helping and supporting entities are.

Describe the Coaching Staff at Texas Tech.

The coaching staff at Tech, for lack of more words, is special. They’re always bringing the juice and care extremely deeply for the players, other staff members, and everyone surrounding them You here it a lot, but they truly showcase and define themselves as the toughest, hardest working, and most competitive team in the country. The staff represents what The Brand is day in and day out.

Describe Joey McGuire in 5 words or less.

Genuine, passionate, selfless, intense, leader.

Who from Texas Tech has been in contact with you the most and what is that relationship like?

Coach Kittley has been the person I’ve talked to the most for obvious reasons. We have a phenomenal relationship and we’ve continued to grow closer not only as a coach/player relationship but as a figure of guidance as well. What sets Tech apart from the rest is yes I talk with Coach Kittley the most, but all of the other assistants, GAs, and other positions coaches also stay in constant communication. It really is a family atmosphere.

What about Texas Tech stands out to you?

I think the people in general stand out the most. Not just the staff but everybody in the community are all huge supporters of the University. They are always showing tons of love to everybody.

What are you looking for in a College Program?

I’m looking for a place that is going to challenge me on and off the field. I want to go somewhere and be the face of a program and somewhere where I can make an impact. Not necessarily given to me obviously, I will definitely work for it and I’m not afraid of that. I want to go to a place that is going to develop me as an athlete, a student, and a person overall. Make me a better man so to speak. I want to go somewhere that I will build a “life term” connection and that when it’s all said and done I can say I’ve impacted that program positively.

What would/does an offer from Texas Tech mean to you?

An offer from Tech to me meant an opportunity. That opportunity to me is invaluable so it should be treated as such. To me an offer, and in my case my commitment, is the staff investing in Jake Strong and therefore I need to make that investment worth while and bring back a return on their investment.

What skills do you bring to the field?

I think my strongest asset is my mind. In my opinion that’s one of if not the most important piece for a QB to be successful. I think my toughness both mental and physical, anticipation, and the ability to adapt are also strong attributes of my game.

What are some things you are working on this summer?

I’m always looking to improve my throwing motion to become efficient as possible. I’m a fluid player so always room to grow. With that are the standard physical things but also studying the game and continuing to grow in that aspect also.

Who do you model your game after? Why?

I model my game after a collection of guys really. Each “great” out there today has something that made them great, so if you can take a culmination of each of them then you can continue to grow and not reach your peak. Some guys I watch and look at would be Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and much more but those are just a few.

Where else do you plan to visit/ camp this summer?

I’m not going anywhere else this summer.
