Why Pat Kelsey Should be the Next Texas Tech Head Basketball Coach

The search for a new head basketball coach at Texas Tech has begun after Mark Adam’s departure became official. A pivotal name the Red Raiders could look at is promising Head Coach Pat Kelsey of The College of Charleston. He’s a young and fearless coach. Here’s why Pat Kelsey should be the next Head Coach for the Red Raiders.

Success at Winthrop

One of the most successful coaches in Big South Conference history, Kelsey revived a winning tradition while serving as head coach at Winthrop University. No other Big South program has had more total or conference victories during his nine seasons. The Eagles won the Big South Conference Championships in 2017, 2020, and 2021. He also made two appearances in the NCAA Tournament while at his time at Winthrop. He also recruited and coached Red Raider favorite Adonis Arms.

Continued Success

After departing Winthrop in 2021, Kelsey took another coaching job at the College of Charleston where he has been successful from the start. In his two years so far he has a record of 48-18. With only 3 losses in this current season. Charleston secured a bid to the NCAA Tournament this past Tuesday by winning the Colonial Athletic Association Conference Tournament. So expect them to make some noise in March under a great coach.

Final Thoughts

Kelsey is the New Age College Basketball! He will be a fan favorite down in Lubbock. His offense has shown to be explosive over the years so why not bring Pat Kelsey to Lubbock? I have nothing but faith that he will succeed in the Big 12.
