Texas Tech target and Nolan Christian Defensive End Curlee Thomas IV was gracious enough to talk to our very own Jacob Harris. He talked about his recruitment, his skillset on the field, and what he’s looking for in a program. Here’s their conversation.
Question: What has your recruitment been like with COVID? Will you be taking in-person visits this summer?
It’s really been a blessing. This time last year I didn’t have any offers, now I have 41. I plan to take all my officials and if time permits a few unofficial.
Question: What has been your favorite part of recruiting?
Favorite part of recruiting is just learning the process . Learning what coaches and scouts are looking for and how they see you fitting into the culture.
Question: Who at Texas Tech has been most in contact with you and what is your relationship with them like?
I’ve been in HEAVY contact with everyone from Head Coach (Matt) Wells all the way to Coach (Preston) Preston and Ashton Washington. I have a great relationship with all of them, especially Coach (Paul) Randolph.
Question: What stands out about Texas Tech to you?
The fact that I’m their number one target at the position. That really matters to me. It let’s me know I’ll be given a opportunity to play early.
Question: What other schools are you interested in?
There’s always interest in Blue Blood programs but California, Michigan State, UCLA, Purdue, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Hawaii.
Question: What are you looking for in a program?
Looking for a program that has a good engineering program as well as a football program that promotes hard work, teamwork, and high morals. A World Class Strength & Conditioning program is really important to me. I need him/her and my position coach to develop me to my apex.
Question: What skills do you bring to the field?
I’m a legit sub 4.6 40 last time a ran and I feel I’m faster now with 82 inch wing span at 6’4″ 240. There’s not many people like me at the position. A lot of guys only can pass rush. My film shows I’m a high level pass rusher and run stopper. I’m a high IQ student of the game.
Question: Who do you model your game after and why?
I just play my game but I think my game is model from a little of the old school From Hall of Famer Jason Taylor with some Myles Garrett.
Question: Anything else you want Red Raider Nation to know about you?
I’m a big anime and Japanese food guy so hopefully they can point some good restaurants out. Red Raider Nation is really great. I really enjoyed the crowd at the spring game.
We want to thank Curlee Thomas again for giving us some time to get to know him better. He would be a great addition to this football program!
