There’s Weston Wright Days Until Football

There are 70 days until the Red Raiders take the field against the Houston Cougars. Every day, we will be highlighting a different Red Raider based on their jersey number. Today, we will be taking a look at Offensive Lineman Weston Wright.

There’s not many players on this Texas Tech team with more experience at guard than Weston Wright. He’s only a junior but has started 17-straight games for the Red Raiders, including the last 10 at left guard. Wright was one of the few players to consistently start for the Red Raiders last season as he was able to stay healthy and avoid missing any game action.

Wright is a large man, especially for an offensive guard. He’s 6’6″ and 315 pounds and looks more like someone you would put at tackle instead of guard. Wright fits at guard with excellent agility and strength. Multiple times last season his film shows his ability to block at the second level and his ability to find linebackers to block.

This offensive line has been a liability for the team the last few seasons, back to even the days when Patrick Mahomes was throwing passes in Lubbock. Wright will help this unit overcome these past woes and hopefully give whoever takes snaps at quarterback this season a clean pocket.
